Bedknobs and Broomsticks and Larry Fink

with one comment

I purchased Trent Parke’s Bedknobs & Broomsticks through Alec Soth’s  Little Brown Mushroom blog a couple of weeks ago.   Obviously, I’m looking forward to receiving this…

I also picked up a reasonably good copy of Larry Fink’s Somewhere There’s Music in a second hand bookshop the other day for less than $20.00.  Bargain.

Larry Fink: Somewhere There’s Music

Update:

My copy of B&B arrived and, as expected it’s a pretty slick production. Beautifully printed and bound with fantastic photography and an almost stream of concious narrative.

Interestingly, Blake Andrews, a contributor to iN-PUBLiC began a bit of a heated internet discussion (the world’s first…) when he suggested on his blog that many people were buying this site unseen and that “Soth could’ve sold 1000 paperweights if they had Parke’s name on them”.   Much was being made of the fact that on the weekend after it sold out, the book was being sold on eBay for over $200.  Some of the boys (yes I think they’re almost exclusively boys) at Hardcore Street Photography over at Flickr, were in a bit of a brou ha ha over the fact that it wasn’t a book of Street Photography.  Apparently Trent Parke’s never shot anything but street photography…

As I said on Blake’s post, I would have bought a copy if the edition had been 100,000.  I like photobooks, I like Trent Parke’s work,  so for $18.00, I’d be stupid not to buy a copy.  The fact that it’s now worth 10 times that price is neither here nor there. I’m not selling it.
