Okay it’s not the 4oD or 5D, but it’s a bit of fun…

The camera function on my phone can actually produce a decent picture given the right conditions.  I’ve reduced the size to 640 x 480 and it’s taken me a while to work out the focus function but now I’ve got these things worked out, it’s not too bad.  Using it has also got me hankering for a smaller, more portable system than the 40D.  Currently looking at the Canon G10 or Lumix L3.

Will camera phones be the Polaroids of the future?  Nick Maggio over at A Time to Get  is doing some great stuff with an iPhone and the CameraBag app.

More marketing genius…

Speaking of marketing genius; is this the most hyped and talked about camera release since the 5DMkII?  I’ve been following the E-P1 since Mike Johnston at The Online Photographer first started talking about it many months ago and I have to admit I’ve been lusting after it purely on looks alone.  I got to, briefly, play with one today and it felt as good as it looks.  Weighty but not heavy, quiet but not silent, it felt beautiful to hold.  At $1400 AUD though its going to have to wait awhile.  It will be interesting to see what people are saying in a few months when all the hype has died down.  The Online Photographer is promising an indepth review soon.  In the meantime Ken Lamug, a pretty fine street photographer, has a fairly positive review at his blog.

Update:  Ken Tanaka now has a mostly positive review over at TOP.

old as fcuk

A piece of marketing genius is the FCUK label.   I remember the brouhaha when it first hit Australia’s shores several years ago.  Half the population decrying the use of a swear word in marketing and the other half, quite rightly, saying, well it’s not actually a swear word.  Oh the free publicity.

Flat Light Blues

 Grey

The weather in Adelaide has, for the past couple of weeks, been grey and overcast and a little bit uninspiring.  It’s been a bit of a surprise to me how reliant I have become on the extremes of light and shade and how much I look for it in my photography.  There is a series of street shots somewhere on the internet that makes particular use of flat and grey lighting and does it extremely well.  I wish I could find that series now.

Shot from my window on my camera phone.  It’s looked like this for days and days.  I won’t complain though; we’re desperate for the rain.
